In general, a shovel is a tool to dig as well as to move loose, granular materials (like dirt, gravel, grain, or snow) from one spot to another. Round point shovels may be used for more than just digging and scooping; they can also be used for transplanting, trenching, transporting compost or mulch, and many other tasks. Rounded shovels often have a beveled edge to aid with soil penetration. They can also have a point to press into the ground.
